12 Dec. 2024: Production at the Fourstones Sapphire Mill resumed today, less than 48 hours after a fire broke out at the site in the early hours of 10 December 2024.
No one was injured in the fire, which was confined to a raw materials store.
"We are pleased to confirm that the core operational areas of the site were not affected and there was no loss of vital infrastructure," the company said.
An investigation into the fire was completed within 24 hours and confirmed that no criminal activity was involved. Staff have since been allowed to return to the site. Fourstones said it would continue to co-operate with the authorities and assist with any ongoing requirements.
Health and Safety Manager Scott Norman said: "Safety inspections, including structural inspections, have been carried out and the site has been declared safe by the fire service. Ongoing fire monitoring is being carried out by staff".
Fourstones produces tissue paper and products from recovered fibre. The company operates three sites in the UK.
