7 July 2024: DS Smith has said it wants the industry to work with the new Labour government to support it’s commitment to ‘adopt and implement’ a green industrial strategy.

Commenting on the results of the UK general election, Miles Roberts, group chief executive, said: “We stand ready to work with the new government to support Labour’s commitment to adopt and implement a green industrial strategy. British business needs a long-term plan and a concrete roadmap to boost investment and growth, so we hope to see Labour working in partnership with business to put a strategy in place and, crucially, commit to its implementation.

“The EU and US have already announced ambitious packages to support the competitiveness and decarbonisation of their industry, so there is no time to lose if the government is serious about delivering growth whilst supporting British business in its transition to net zero. It is crucial for the new government to involve industry from the start as a strategic partner, as the combined challenges of the net zero transition, historic low growth and increasing global competition leave decision makers with a clear need to find solutions that work.”
