11 Sept. 2023: Ian Padley has just successfully completed the first of a new-look ‘Introduction to Tissue’ course. The image shows him with the students, all from Kemira, who were there to learn about the unique problems associated with Tissue manufacturing.
Over the course of recent months, Ian has completely rewritten the course, with increased emphasis on manufacture, measurement and troubleshooting of the base product. The course runs for 2 days in total, and is packed with information on properties and measurement, tissue technology (which includes converting and finishing), and pulp selection, all on day one. This is followed on the second day with sections on chemicals (of obvious interest to this group of participants), softness, quality assessment, then two completely new areas compared to previous iterations: ‘the art and science of creping’ and ‘tips for troubleshooting and auditing the tissue machine’.
Ian has over 20 years’ experience in the industry, having spent nine years on the chemicals side with Hercules, and 13 years with engineering firm BTG, so he is well versed in all aspects of tissue manufacturing. In addition, judging from the feedback forms he is an outstanding teacher, and someone we are delighted to have onboard to deliver some of our key training courses.
